One of the symbols of the city of Venice
A masterpiece of Venetian Gothic architecture, it is a building located in the monumental area of Piazza San Marco, in the San Marco district, between the small square of the same name and the pier of the Doge's Palace, adjacent to the Basilica of San Marco. It was also simply called "Palazzo" as it was the only building to be so designated. All other patrician residences of state were called ca' (house).
One of the most important monumental squares in the world
It is the only urban space in Venice properly called a "piazza," as all other square-shaped spaces are properly called "campi." Its main body is trapezoidal in shape, with other areas grafted onto it, and is approximately 170 meters long.
An important connection point of the city
The Rialto Bridge is an inhabited bridge in Venice over the Grand Canal. It connects the San Marco district with the San Polo district and is an important point of connection within the city itself. Originally designed as a simple pontoon bridge in the 1170s, it was rebuilt several times, culminating in its current version in 1591.
